Simple physical activity, such as walking, conducted at least three hours per week is to help women to reduce the risk of stroke. Similarly, according to a new study in the United States.

"The message to the public remains the same, that is a lot of physical activity is good for your health," said lead study author José María Huerta of Murcia Regional Health Authority in Spain told Reuters Health.

Moderate exercise to prevent stroke

The study, published in the journal Stroke suggests that women who walk with an average of 3.5 hours or more per week had a lower risk for stroke. The researchers also gave advice on doing at least moderate-intensity physical activity for 150 minutes per week.

Stroke occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is suddenly interrupted or when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures causing blood to come out into the room in the brain that disrupts the brain cells working. Dizziness and sudden numbness that occurs primarily on one side of the body and loss of balance are common symptoms of a stroke.

Previous studies also published in the journal Stroke states that lowering sodium intake can help in reducing the risk of stroke. Another study found that replacing high-fat dairy products with low-fat products can also prevent stroke.
